Fishing in August and September is hot and not just the weather

Capt. Roan zumFelde
August 14, 2009
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

This fishing report for the Naples and Marco areas will be short and sweet. The summer slow down has not hit yet. There is good action from the inside to the outside. Early season Redfish are starting to show up in bays close to the passes. Snook fishing on the outside is very good. Passes are filled with bait and the Snook are crashing them on the early morning bite. Tarpon are scattered on the outside along the beaches and some small ones are on the inside of the passes. We have finally started with some good rains and the Creeks in the backcountry have been getting good for early morning and late evening Baby Tarpon action. Small White streamers and Jerk baits have been getting them to eat. Offshore has been strong also. Very good Snapper fishing and The Spanish Mackerel seem to be everywhere. Permit are on the wrecks if you can find crabs somewhere they have been hard to come by as of late.

September fishing should hold the same or possibly even get better especially for Snook and offshore. I love September fishing in our area. No body on the water and the fish typically are jumping in the boat. Night fishing in September is usually some of the best of the year. Tarpon and Snook under the lights. Big Tarpon running the beach and small ones in the back. How can you go wrong. Oh yeah and Snook season opens back up. If you want to try something different this is the time of the year when you want to try to eat mullet. They are building there fat for spawning and they are fantastic smoked or fried fresh. Try them you will not be disappointed. Thanks and good Fishing Capt. Roan z.
