The fishing in Naples has been good and bad. Mixed bags mostly.

Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well, I am sure glad to have this month behind me. I can sum it up in one word inconsistent. We fished hard this month and had some great fishing and some not so great. Oh the usual players were about the Sea trout, and Pompano, but one day you slammed them and the next you were struggling for a keeper or two.

Good news March is around the corner and things should get a little better. Of course it wouldn't be February if it didn't go out with a bang and another big Cold front to put off the good fishing for a little while. I will be heading out this morning with Dr. Kühner for our last cold day on the water before he leaves back for Germany and I head up to the Frank Sargent show in Tampa. I will be in the Temple Fork Outfitters Booth. Please come and visit. Lefty, Guy and myself will be there discussing the advantages of the new TFO rods and reels along with teaching casting, and just plain having fun talking fishing with everyone. The show is at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, Fri-Sunday. I will be their on Fri and Sat only. Fishing the CCA Tourney on Sunday with my partner Rich. Hope we have a good turnout and I hope Rich and I catch smaller Reds this time the last time we had to many oversized fish. Well no matter what happens it will be fun for everyone.

What is the fishing forecast? You ask! Well I think we are looking at a couple of days of difficult fishing, these late season fronts are going to drop the water temps again and put the fish who were starting to get more active the last few days into another slump. Oh the Trout and the Pomp's will still be biting but it doesn't bode well for the grand opening of Snook Season. I expect some Keeper Snook will be caught, most of which will probably be caught around the docks in Marco and Naples. The fish that were holding in the passes will probably be tough and the bait that was out on the outside is probably going to be tough to find also. I think if you can catch some good whitebait and if you work it around docks that have some deep water close by you will probably catch some nice one's. Mangrove fishing will be tough I think. The fish are there we caught quite a few nice fish Tuesday before the storm arrived, but it is going to take some time for the fish to recover from the dropping temps and the return of high pressure.

For the next couple of weeks fishing should improve little by little as the water temps rise I hope. If the late fronts keep coming it will prolong this and will also make thing tough because of wind. I will be starting to Bass fish more this month in the Glades. Fishing for the little green monsters so far this year has been just so so. Hopefully things will be getting better and we will get back into the 50 to 100 Bass days.

Good luck and good fishing Roan z.
