Ice on the dock

Capt. Michael Avinon
January 1, 2011
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

We started the week off with a full day leaving at 8am and when I got to the dock there was ice from one end to the other, not just a patch but the entire city dock.I fell asleep in naples and woke up in minnesota. After a slippery walk down the dock we made our way offshore. We made our day with a limit of mangrove snappers and a pair of keeper amberjacks. The bite was slow but with a little patience we made our day.The next day started slow but ended with a bang with the boat catching 9 keeper gags ,a red ,and 6 amberjacks to 50 pds.Not to be outdone the third day in a row the fish would not bite until late in the day but on the last drop we caught a limit of gags to 30" and a few mangrove snapper to give us a limit of snappers and gag groupers.Today was the first day of the gag grouper closure and as luck would have it we released 6 keeper gags with one being a 29"fish on 20 pd spin. The half day bite is a little slow right now so if you have the option the full day is a better choice.

Naples Fishing Forecast:

Gags are closed until god knows when but the state hasnt closed them yet.I dont know if they will follow the feds or not but right now it is legal to catch keeper gags inside of nine miles on the bayboat so if you have to catch grouper and dont have time for a full day charter, weather permitting we can keep a few groupers on the half day. Also the trout are open now and seem to be everywhere with rat reds mixed in.Offshore the reds are around but only available on full day charters. The snappers and amberjacks are biting well and should continue all winter.

More Fishing Reports:

I have been operating out of Naples for over twenty years and have the spots to prove it.With a range of over 400 miles and the speed to get there quickly the options are endless. We are consistently one of the top producing boats in sw florida, stop by the city dock and see for yourself.
