july fishing starts off great

Capt. Michael Avinon

Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

In the month of june we fished a few two night trips and the fishing offshore for red snappers and groupers was fantastic. On our first trip we had a limit(24)of red snappers up to 14pds and 31 keeper groupers with two of them being true blacks, one 65pds and the other 85pds.On the second trip we caught 23 keeper groupers and another limit of red snappers with a gag to 35pds and a scamp that was over 30" to the fork.On our full days we are catching limits of red groupers at will with lots of kings mixed in to 30pds.The fishing this summer offshore is shaping up to be a really good one.Not to be outdone I fished a half day backwater today and the snook bite was as good as it gets.My two anglers from Illinois caught 25 snook with probably 4 fish in the slot and one fish over 36" all on 12pd spin tackle,we looked for a tarpon on the beach but the water was muddy, the fishing should continue to stay good the rest of the month
