Last days for red groupers

Capt. Michael Avinon
January 23, 2012
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

The red groupers have made a move to deeper water the last couple of weeks with the passing fronts but on our full days we are still catching all the groupers we want. Our full day charters we have catching anywhere from 14 to 18 keepers a day.On one recent trip we had 17 keeper reds 4 amberjacks and a 50 pd cobia in the box by 11am.The amberjacks have been ranging from 25 pds to some 50 pounders mixed in.The biggest red grouper the last couple of weeks was a fish that was 31".There are kingfish in the area but can be a little fickle with the cooler water.

Naples Fishing Forecast:

I have two days left before the red groupers close for two months.During the closure we will be fishing for snappers, amberjacks, and kingfish. The weather has been extremely calm and warm for jan so expect an early spring run on the kingfish. These are usually our biggest schools of fish for the year.Catching 50 to 75 kings on spin tackle is not out of the question during the spring run.We have been live chumming the amberjacks to the boat the last couple weeks and they should stay consistent through the grouper closure. Also just want to send congratulations out to my good freind Chris on team GET SNOOKERED for a second place finish at the kingfish tournament in key west last weekend.

More Fishing Reports:

I have been operating out of Naples for over twenty years and have the spots to prove it.With a range of over 400 miles and the speed to get there quickly the options are endless. We are consistently one of the top producing boats in sw florida, stop by the city dock and see for yourself.
