Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well, we are now in April thank the lord, lets hope the winds and the cold of March are behind us. March was a tricky month to fish in. Lots of wind some rain and a whole bunch of cold days. Eventhough we had some weather issues the fishing was not all bad. caught good numbers of fish on Live bait, mostly shrimp and we did have some good fly fishing between weather events. Caught some nice bass in the Glades canals and Redfishing was pretty good when you could find them in the shallow bays out of the wind. Snook and Tarpon were a little difficult but we still had some days were we caught them mostly way inside the canals or creeks. Lets hope April is much better. Looks like it will be.
Naples Fishing Forecast:

The first week of April has started pretty well. Caught some nice Snook and Reds throughout Rookery bay on live bait on the first along with keeper Trout and Snapper to fill out the list. My Fly guys on Tuesday had a great morning tallying a small Slam with good numbers of Snook a couple of Small 15lb Tarpon and two nice reds not huge ones but good all the same for their slam. The Snook were deeper into the Creeks and the Tarpon in the canals. Redfish are scattered on the shallow flats around Rookery.
The rest of the month should get better and better with the big Tarpon showing themselves and actually trying to eat somethng. Look in the bays closest to the outside. The Snook fishing will continue to get better as some of the offshore fish will make their way back inside to the passes and outter bays. The Reds should still be sporadic catches but this is usuall. Go to Louisiana if you want Reds come here to catch Snook and Tarpon. Redfish in Southwest Florida to me are incidental catches to our fishng for other species. Love them all the same and it is sure nice to catch them but there are better places to do this. Snapper fishing should get better and Trout should stay the same with more catches coming from the outter flats and islands and along the beach. The Freshwater canals will get good along I75 for Bass and I hear there are a few Cichlids showing up. Will probably start looking for Peacock bass to show in Golden Gate. Water needs to get near 80 degrees though. Good luck and get out there and do some catching.
