Naples Fishing Report

Capt. Chris McCubbin
December 13, 2009
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

I had a great month of business and fishing in November and December has been pretty slow so far business wise. I have a great run of trips starting on the 19th lasting through the first week of January. The fishing has remained strong though this month both in the backwaters and just off the beaches. In the back Ive been targeting snook and trout mostly. Live pilchards have still been the bait of choice and Ive been fishing some new areas for trout and putting a serious hurting on them. A small popping cork and a pilchard has them going nuts, I was averaging close to 40 trout a trip. Snook fishing was solid with a lot of fish in the 22-25in range, but did manage a monster 44in fish the last week of November. Just off the beaches I have been targeting bonita, both on the fly and with light spinning tackle. Small spoons have been all you need and gummy flies have been getting destroyed. Running the trap lines has been good for tripletail with fish to 8lbs being caught. This week we broke one off at the boat that was close to 15lbs, DOA shrimp and small pilchards have been doing the trick.

Naples Fishing Forecast:

Look for fishing to remain good with the above average temps. Trout, snook, and pompano will be best bet in the backwaters and bonita and tripletail off the beaches

Target Species:

Snook, Trout, Pompano, Tripletail, Bonita

More Fishing Reports:

Specialize in light tackle fishing for tarpon, snook, redfish, trout, and sharks in the backwaters and coastal Gulf of Mexico of Marco Island, Naples, Estero Bay and Sanibel Island. I have spent my whole life fishing and learning the great fishery we have in Naples, Fl. Im known for being very easy going, hard working and great with all skill levels.
