Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's been a long time since my last report and it's not due to lack of fishing. We had great tarpon fishing in May and June with some really nice fish caught. We boated the biggest fish my boats caught in June that was close 200lbs. She ate a thread in 3ft of water on a clear gulf flat and put up one hell of an arerial display for her size. When we weren't tarpon fishing the snook bite was also fantastic with lots of really big fish over 40" coming out of the passes. Big threads on the outgoing afternoon tides were getting destroyed. The mornings were spent catching big late season trout and snook. Our trout stayed red hot through June which was a nice treat for people wanting dinner. The average fish was 18" with a lot of nice trout to 24".
Lately I have been fishing the late afternoons from 5-9pm. It's much cooler after the rain and the snook bite has been excellent. Live pilchards fished around docks has been the way to go, most fish are in the mid 20" range with a few over 30". Tarpon fishing has been hit or miss lately, one afternoon they eat good and the next you can't find a fish. We have been doing pretty good on smaller tarpon from 10-30lbs before dark on live pilchards and jerkbaits. This mornng we fished offshore catching nice snapper, mackeral, small gags, trout, jacks and some nice flounder. On the way in we hit a favorite shoreline and caught four nice redfish to 26".
Naples Fishing Forecast:

Snook fishing will remain strong through the Summer and Fall. September and October should be red hot with big tarpon and redfish coming back into the picture. The Fall bait run off the beaches has been unbelievable the last three years for tarpon. Some days hooking 30 tarpon on bait, fly and artificials.
Target Species:

Tarpon, Snook, Redfish
