Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

January fishing has been typical fishing this year. Small Snook in the back country with a few big ones thrown in for good measure. Lots of hard to catch Redfish on the flats. Sheepshead around every point and corner, hitting well on shrimp and jigs and tough on flies. Ladyfish abound, to keep the young anglers interested and throw in some trout for dinner. The other good news, it has actually been warm enough to catch a few Tarpon in the back country for my fly anglers. Snook fishing under the lights has been excellent and Bass have been bitting in the Glades. Now, we have had some tough conditions to fish in during periods of time this month, but all in all not bad for a January.
Naples Fishing Forecast:

February fishing should be right on track for an early spring fishery. We will want to keep our fingers crossed and suggest our toes also, that we do not have any debilitating cold. It looks good though. If the weather continues to warm, which should happen toward the end of February, we will see the return of big Tarpon and some small fish in the Back bays. Snook Fishing will turn red hot; first around the docks and then just about everywhere they will come out to play. I will have to warn you though if we get another blast of old man winter then we are back to square one fishng for ladyfish and trout. Not bad but not the fish most come to catch in our neck of the woods. Everglades Bass fishing will get better every day of the week as the water warms. Lets all get together and say a little prayer for a mild February and a good start ot our fishng season. Good Fishing Roan z.
