Naples Snookin

Capt. Pete Root

Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Gettin hotter
For the past two weeks as the water temps climb into the 80's the snook have really turned on. The area I fish is typically between Naples and Marco island. Over the last week and a half I have not had to leave the Naples area as the snook seem to be on every point that has water moving across it. Bill Bevan of Boston had a stellar day with 36 snook all caught in the first two bays of Naples, known as Dollar and Shell bays. One point in particular had tiny glass minnows being sweep by it. Every time Bill put a much larger pilchard in with them it got smashed, that point alone accounted for over half of Bill's total. The bite tends to slow as expected when the tide slacks only to pick right back up when the water starts moving again. The night bite has been just as productive. With the absence of mosquito's and the mild night temps fishing has been very pleasant. John Bode of Naples finished a enjoyable night trip with a monster 130 pound tarpon that ate a catfish tail. After a masterful battle and a quick picture it was released to fight another day.
