Naples Tarpon and Snook Fishing

Capt. Chris McCubbin
June 11, 2009
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

The top two fish in Naples have really made a strong showing over the last few weeks. Pilchards have been a little tricky to get with the full moon. You really have to be patient and they will come. Threads are all over the beaches and on the wrecks.
I will start with the tarpon as they are the major player. All the rain we had has pushed the fish out onto the beaches. I have been doing real well in the mornings on live threads. You have to get out early as the best bite has been from 630-9am. After that I have been fishing them on some other spots and doing real well. Most of the fish have been in the 60-115lbs although I have seen some bigger fish. The night time fishing has been excellent for smaller tarpon in the 10-40lb range. Bait of choice has been the DOA Baitbusters on light line. This morning I had a great angler from England names Paul who writes a column for a fishing site and we went 2-4 with the big fish at around 110lb and the other around 60lb.
Snook fishing has been great just about every where docks, passes and the beaches have been loaded. This is the best time of year to catch them in great numbers. Mornings or late evenings are the way to go.
