Naples and US 41 Canals chasing Tarpon

Capt. Paul Wolter
April 14, 2009
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Spent a half day on the Tamiami Canals looking for Tarpon. We found a few Tarpon rolling, but couldnt get any to commit. One did chase the plug all the way in though which made the heart thump! Lots of Snook and Jacks around and we got into a few. The Snook were decent at around 24" each and the Jacks about 4lbs a piece. Too bad we werent targeting them it would have been a much more productive day!! We also located a new area that had some small Largemouth Bass and large Snook. All in all a fun day exploring once again. I am always finding new spots out here! The Tarpon picture is me with one caught last week on fly in the same general area. Great fun!!!!

Naples Fishing Forecast:

As summer approaches look for a more favorable pattern of east winds and frequent rain to take over. While it may be hotter and less comfy, getting out early in the day will produce excellent results.
