Red Hot Tailing Action - Pine Island Kayak Report

Jennifer Wolter
December 6, 2014
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week has been phenomenal fishing the Pine Island flats. This is the time of year when you want to ditch the boat for a kayak and take advantage of these low minus tides we get in Southwest Florida this time of year. Schools of tailing redfish are all over the flats right now. Follow the stingrays! Lately we've been seeing pods of tailing reds hanging with the rays just a few feet off our kayaks. A combination of factors is key for successfully seeing redfish tail in good numbers. A light E or ENE wind, consecutive days of cool nights and warm days, and targeting these fish on the first hour of the incoming tide. We've been having days of multiple 28-30" reds caught on jigs rigged with soft plastics as well as on fly using various crab and shrimp patterns.
