Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

The redfish invasion is here in full now and I had several trips last week that found the best action so far this fall with plenty of slot reds and other fish in the mix!
The highlight of last weeks trips was Friday afternoon, when I took long time client John Shroyer and his daughter Susan for an afternoon half day.
The team boated over two dozen redfish all in the mid-slot averaging about 24 inches each. Two were invited to dinner along with a flounder. Several snook were also hooked and caught.
The star of the afternoon was John's giant 24 lb. redfish measuring 36 inches! Caught in less than two feet of water against the mangroves, this is the largest redfish ever boated aboard my boat in the backwaters during my 31 year career! My previous record for a backwater reds was 17 pounds.
We have caught plenty reds of similar size and even larger over the years, but they have always been caught in the passes or in the gulf.
John also hooked up with a tarpon of about 40 lbs. which ended up running under the mangroves and breaking off. A great afternoon with a couple great anglers!
John and Susan with the big redfish...

Sunday morning I had a return of last weeks featured clients, Chuck and Chris. They found several nice redfish eager to bite as well as snook, gag grouper, snapper and two juvenile tarpon caught by Chuck.
I can't wait to get back out and see what's in store for the next trip!
