Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fly Fishing Report Naples to Marco
The fly fishing this summer has been great, lots of Tarpon between 10 and 50 pounds to test your skills. Snook of all sizes are in and around the passes including the beaches. And in the last week the Redfish have been filtering into the passes and into the bays and flats nearby to the passes. Last wednesday I fished a client on the last of the outgoing tide in an area we call Louisiana it is a series of flats that are close to a pass that has a lot of Spartina Grass on them. The Reds and Snook were on these flats tailing around looking for anything to eat. We fished a small Rz' Sparkle Shrimp in Rootbeer and in Size 4. The flat was less than a foot deep and most of the time the fishes backs were out of the water. We were able to catch two Reds both were about 25 inches and three Snook the largest being 28 inches. It is sure a hoot in that shallow water fishing to these fish. We could of kept catching fish there but the tide was droping out and the entrance to the flat was going dry so we had to get out or we were going to be spending alot more time there than we wanted too. IT was a good morning we boated 10 to 15 Snook, Jumped Two Tarpon and released two Reds.
Bait Fishing has been a no brainer.
As long as you can catch the bait the bait fishing for Snook, Tarpon, and Redfish has been very good. The passes from Bonita to Chokoloskee have had anything and everything that you could want to catch in them. Large Snook and Redfish, and some Nice Tarpon to 70 lbs. have been caught this week. Just find an area in the pass were there is a break from the tide and the fish will be stacked up. On any cast you will not know what you are going to catch from Snapper, Grouper, Snook, Tarpon, Redfish, Jacks, and a couple of other one's that I won't mention. The Snook are still Spawning so there are a few big Sow's left. Although I have seen more starting to show up in the Back Country.
Offshore Fishing is red hot too.
Offshore fishing in the evening and at night has been unbeatable. Nearshore: Snook, Tarpon, Permit, and Mangrove Snapper have been the catch. Further offshore the catch has been Cobia, Amberjack, Yellowtail Snapper, and Permit. I do not think you can go wrong offshore if you have a livewell full of bait. If you want the Snapper use a lighter line and freeline a bait or Shrimp with light weights. The Permit fishing is better in the late afternoons with the permit coming up and popping crabs on top of the water. This is a great time to catch them on a fly Rod also. Use a 10 weight Fly Rod with one of my Rz's Permit Crab Patterns and they will slurp it. You can catch them in the mornings also, but the bite is much shorter this time of the year. If you run out of fish to catch on the wrecks or you want to try something different, starting about 25 miles out try trolling some rigged ballyhoo for dolphin around the same wrecks and bottom. You might be surprised at what you will catch. Send a Lure deep on a downrigger also. For more info contact us through email or our web site.
