Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Back Country from Naples to Marco

The fishing this month has been a little slow. One reason is I haven't been on the water to much, this is the time of the year when I try and take my vacations. I have been getting out atleast a couple times a week and am finding some great fishing in our back country creeks and bays betwwen Naples and Marco. This time of the year I would usually be focused on our passes for Tarpon, Snook, and Redfish but we have been fighting some red tide which is making fishing this area a little tough. Not impossisble by any stretch of the imagination but tough on the Fly. Bait fishing these areas if you can get some large Shrimp has been good with catches of large Snook and Tarpon and lots of Redfish. I do not fish much bait but my other guides are telling me you can't miss in Gordon Pass on the outgoing tide for Redfish and Snook. There seems to be more Tarpon on the incoming tide.

Fly Fishing The Creeks

I have been spending most of my time fishing the Back Country Creeks between Naples and Marco and it has been paying off for my Fly Fisherman. We have been finding good numbers of small Tarpon To twenty five pounds and large Snook in the creeks. The bays associated with these creeks are getting filled with more redfish everyday I fish. i believe we are going to have a banner Redfish year, there seems to be more redfish showing up this year than i have seen in the last ten years. I hope we can keep the red tide to our north and whisch will help in the cause. Fishing two days ago we jumped 9 Tarpon on a white Muddler Fly and Caught two. Switching to a Rz's Snook Slayer in Brown produced some Snook about twenty in total and one redfish for my client. We had three other redfish take the fly, but just couldn't keep them on. We were fishing with the new Temple Fork TICRX 8wt. Rod with a Bauer MZ3 reel which seems to be a perfect combo. I like the new rods from TFO they are cosmetically perfect and have a great feel when casting. Especially when casting the larger flies they seem to really shine. I cannot belive the bang for the buck these rods give you. I am glad a company has finnaly brought a fly rod out that anyone can purchase and has a good casting action and feel. If you want to learn more about these rods contact me through my email or join us at the Shallow Water Show in October. The locations Sarasota on the 1st and 2nd and West Palm on the 15th and 16th.

Offshore fishing is getting ready to explode.

The offshore reefs near Naples are holding some huge Bull Redfish along with Huge Snook that are resting up after a long breeding season. Places to look for these fish are the naples reef or just get a chart with reef locations on them and try your luck. Be sure to watch the weather though the afternoon Thunderstorms can blow up fast. The fish seem to be hitting well on Large shrimp fished on the bottom. I am sure the Kingfish run will be starting soon and if we can get rid of the Red tide the bait should be more accessable. If you need more detailed info then contact us and get on our mailing list we have an up to date newsletter that will help you find your way through our fishing waters.
