Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Naples Fishing Offshore,Back Country and Everglades Bass

The offshore fishing in Naples is still spotty, Some catches of Snapper and Grouper are happening but it seems the Grouper fishing is better in the Back Country. There are a few Kingfish showing up around the Shrimp Boats. Not a lot but we are hooking into them when we are fishing for the False Albacore. There seems to be plenty of them to fill the morning, both around the Shrimpers and on some of the wrecks. Cobia have been seen on some of the wrecks that are close to the coast. When fishing the Shrimp boats make sure you bring something for the shrimp boat skipper, you can barter with them for there cull and for fresh shrimp at the same time. Beer usually works the best. Catching bait is still a chore, you will find it one day and then it is gone.

Back Country Fishing

Fishing in our Back country waters is still going strong. For Snook and Tarpon, night fishing is still hard to beat. For shear numbers the lights in Naples can't be beat, but if you want the biguns then try Marco especially around the 951 Bridge. I am having fun with my new 4 and 5 weight Temple Fork Outfitters rods, The Teeny Series. They have been the perfect match for the smaller Snook under the Naples lights.

Fishing the flats has been a little more difficult. Have had a fair amount of wind to contend with and the Redfish have been very spooky. The good news is if you want to just catch fish the Ladyfish and Jack Crevalle have been everywhere. Again they have been lots of fun on the new 5 weight. I tried a new RIO Versa Tip on it with a 200 Grain sinking head and it seems to work perfect for getting the fly to the fish on the deep side of the flats. This combo has seemed to produce more Trout and Pompano along with the other species. Remmember whenever you fish these light rods in Saltwater you need a good reel with a smooth drag system. More often than not you are going to have fish run longer and get further into your backing. I like to use Bauer M2SL it has over 100 yards of backing and the smoothest drag on the market.

Fishing the Everglades Bass

Bass fishing in the Canals is still getting better. It will continue to get better over the next couple of months. L28 is still fishing a little slow with the water as high as it is but the other canals are doing just fine. Fished a canal off of 75 the other day with good success on larger Bass. We caught 68 Bass with the Average size being 3 pounds and the Largest Boga Gripped out at 6 3/4 pounds. Not bad for four hours of fishing. In another month we should expect to double the amount of Bass caught in all of the canals. I hope!! Good Casting Roan z.
