Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Back Country and Offshore Fishing Naples to the Everglades
Fishing has been a little slow the last two weeks. We have had a couple of wopper sized cold fronts that have pushed the fish off the feed. The good news is in the last couple of days the Water temps are rising and the fish are getting active again.
Offshore Fishing
Talked to my Offshore Captains today and the reports are still bleak. The fishing is still poor with the Grouper Fisherman reporting some minor catches of Snapper and lots of little spot tails. It seems that everyone is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the King Fish and Cobia, to spark up the action. Let's hope for everyone's sake that march turns into a good month.
Back Country fishing
Back Country Fishing around Naples has been slow but is steadily getting better. A week ago we were trying to find something to bite the hook and this week we are back with shots at Tarpon and large Snook. Jig fishing is producing good catches of Trout, Redfish, and Pompano along with lots of Jack's and lady Fish to keep everyone busy. The Split tail baits from Tsunami in Redfish color seemed to outproduce everything else the other day. I was fishing with 8 Lb. Maxima Flouro Carbon on my Okuma VS Reel with 20 lb. Flouro Leader, this hands down smoked everyone else that was using braid at leat 6 to 1. Fished the creeks the other day and had lots of shots at little Tarpon some nice Snook and Redfish. The only unfortunate thing was my angler was not able to catch lot's of them. I hate those days when the fish are there but they just aren't on fire for the fly. Well we learned a little about the fish caught some small one's an had a lot of casting practice. Next time it will be different. Night fishing is still red hot, fished last night catching 3 Snook in the 26 to 29 inch range along with a number of others from 20 to 24 inches. Didn't jump any Tarpon, but saw quite a few. If the water keeps heating the Tarpon will feed again real soon.
Everglades Bass Fishing
Bass in the Everglades is still strong and steady no outstanding numbers of fish yet but, good catches in the 30 to 40 fish per day range with fish up to 5 pounds. They are hitting poppers and Muddlers along with Bass Assassin 4 inch Worms in June Bug and Red Shad Colors.
