Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Naples and Marco Fishing report for September

Well almost half way thru September and no hurricanes. Thats the good news. The bad news is we have been fighting lots of freshwater run off which is producing a bit of red tide up and down the coast. Well if it's not one thing it's the other. Any how lets get to the fishing. I wish there were more people wanting to get out because even with the red tide the fishing has been very good. Whether Fly Fishing or Bait Fishing we have been slaying the Snook. The Tarpon fishing has been spotty but in the right place on the right tide, you can catch them.

Fly Fishing

Fished Fly on Friday both at night and during the morning. Had very good success on both trips. The morning trip we boated 18 Snook up to 29 inches and one 24 inch Redfish. We missed the slam by a Tarpon but we did happen to get three small ones in the air, they were all in the 15 pound range.

The Night trip ran along the same lines we boated over twenty Snook ranging from 20 to 31 inches and a few Jack Crevalle for some added fun. My client was specifically tareting Snook so he didn't appreciate the Jacks, but I like them. He was using a 5 weight TICRX Temple Fork, so it took him forever to get the Jacks in. For a small sudo trout rod it handles the saltwater fish nicely. I think Jacks are a lot of fun on light tackle. we also boated a nice 20 inch seatrout. We could have caught more but my client needed to get up early in the morning so we cut our trip short.

Bait Fishing Naples to Marco

Well this is pretty much a no brainer as long as you can catch the bait. The other thing you have to remmember is after you catch the bait be careful not to run to far inside or it will die in the freshwater. This has not been a problem because the best fishing for Snook has bee around the outside points. This is something that will probably change this week there is some red tide showing up between Naples and Marco. This will push the bait well offshore and make it very difficult to fish for as long as it hangs on. So dust off the spinning rods and the Jigs you should still be able to catch your Snook an them.
