Snook bite picking up

Capt. Geoff Crouse
March 1, 2015
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

As we transition into spring, we are seeing less of those pesky winter fronts that brought all of those nasty winds and cooler water temps. This has, in turn, brought about a welcome change to the Snook fishing. The most noteable change being more Snook out on hard sand flats with dark mottling. During every one of my charters this past week, we have been getting into good numbers of Snook laying up in these areas. The nice thing about this transition is that you don't have to be an expert angler to get at these fish... they are very accessible and will take almost any swimbait pattern. There have also been plenty of Jack's cruising these same areas, so there is no shortage of action. Should you come across one of these areas, fish them thoroughly, casting to every dark spot you see, multiple times. Pay special attention to any spots that are holding the little "micro bait" that have been prevalent in the area... it's almost a guarantee that fish will be hanging nearby.

Naples Fishing Forecast:

As we work our way through March, fishing will just get better and better... this has to be one of my favorite times of the year. With the warming weather comes warmer water temps, and you all know what that means... big Snook and Tarpon! We are on the cusp of what I can only hope will be a great beginning to Snook and Tarpon season. Last years early Tarpon season was a bit of a letdown as the winds just wouldn't stop blowing, but I am hopefull that this year mother nature will be a little more co-operative. I know... it's a pipe dream, but one can only hope.

Target Species:

Snook & Tarpon
