Solid Fishing In Naples Florida

Capt. Will Geraghty
September 12, 2012
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Greeting Anglers!

Solid fishing has again returned to the Naples and Marco Island Region. Inclement conditions due to the passing of TS/Hurricane Isaac have diminished resulting in excellent light tackle action on the inshore and offshore waters.

Early and late in the fishing day, Snook and Redfish have been staging up in the middle bays and passes gorging themselves on sardines and mullet. While most of the Redfish are "slot" sized we have been catching several "brood stock" reds up to 36-inches in length!

Snook are on a heavy feed right now as the water begins to cool. With most of these fish still in the Summertime haunts, the best bites have been in the passes, middle bay points and docks possessing moderate to heavy tidal flow. Aboard "The Grand Slam" I have been exclusively employing live "whitebait" or scaled sardines for Snook success!

On the offshore, the Red Grouper bite remains outstanding. Limits of Red Grouper are attainable in as close as the ten mile mark. However, anglers pushing out to water depths beyond 60-feet are scoring big with Red Grouper in the 10-12-pound class! Remember, big live bait will yield big Red Grouper!!

An added bonus for my anglers aboard "The Grand Slam" has been solid catches of large Kingfish or King Mackerel. While not coming over the rail with great frequency, we have been managing at least 2-3 opportunities per trip on the Kings! There has been no bite pattern to the Kings as we have been hooking up with various baits deployed through out the entire water column. I am not complaining as this bite is slightly unusual with Gulf water temperatures still in the mid 80s!!!!!

Light Winds And Good Tides!

Naples Fishing Forecast:

Look for the inshore fishing to remain red hot as the water temps cool ever so slightly. Redfish and Snook will be the top tickets in the passes and middle bays. Also anglers, look for the fall Tarpon bite to develop as we progress further into the month of August.

Offshore, all the usual suspects will be chewing! Look for Spanish Mackerel, Sharks and Bonito to be active on the surface early and late in the fishing day while the bottom fishing will remain outstanding with solid catches of Snapper and Red Grouper.

Target Species:

Snook, Redfish, Snapper, Red Grouper
