Spring Time Fishing in Naples

Capt. Chris McCubbin
March 17, 2009
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Wow, the water has warmed into the mid 70's and the fish have responded. Pilchards are all over the wrecks and big schools of threads have also shown up. They haven't quite made it to the beaches, but it won't be long. Be ready when they do, tarpon, sharks, mackeral, and big jacks will be murdering them.
Snook fishing is good and the fish are getting bigger. The docks are still where Im finding the bigger fish, you just have to deal with a lot of big jacks mixed in with them. Good moving water has been crucial when fishing for snook. The passes have also been good on an outgoing tide in the evenings. I have been cacthing between 15-20 a trip with most fish in the 21-26in range.
Trout fish is still very good and they are quality fish. Pilchards freelined in good current in deep cuts and mangrove shorelines have been producing trout to 23in. I have been bringing back 4-10 nice trout per trip.
Redfish have finally been finding there way to the boat this week. Heavy chumming is required and dirty water has helped. Most of the reds have been in the upper slot.
TARPON have made a good showing just to the south of Naples in the passes and off the beaches this week. I have had the tarpon bug since November and am itching to get on them. Big threads under a cork and DOA Baitbusters are my two go to choices for them.

Naples Fishing Forecast:

Fishing is really heating up and is only going to get better as waters warm even more. Tarpon will make there way to Naples and will be ganging up on big schools of threads. Snook fishing is getting better daily and redfish will start to become more abundant.
Now is the time to fish in Naples so don't hesitate to call 239 404 6255 or email me. I have only a few spots open this month and next month the tarpon fish will be excellent, lets go tarpon fishing. Late afternoon till sunset is a great time to tarpon and snook fish.

Target Species:

Snook, Trout, Redfish and Tarpon
