Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well here we are nearing the end of March and things seem to be right on track with the fishing. The Naples, Marco, and Everglades seem to be alive with fish and all willing to eat a fly or artificial or white bait. Everything a go for a good spring we had one little set back this week some high winds and cooler temps has the fish a little off the feed, but I expect if things straighten out it will get good again.
This week has seen some good and bad days the wind has been a little difficult and the fish have been a little off the bite during the day but the evening and night fishing has been superb. Snook and Tarpon have been the quarry of the evening and they have been eating fly and artificial with reckless abandon. The day fishing has been a little slow even with bait. On the bright side during the day the winter species are still hanging around so we are catching some nice trout and Pompano in the wholes adjacent to the flats. On the outside the Kingfish are here and you do not have to go far to get some reel screaming action.
Fishing in my Everglades adventures have been very good. Took two trips last week in my new Scandy White John Boat and was able to slip into some un fished waters were we slammed with a nice Tarpon, Snook, and Redfish. The Snook on each trip was over 15 pounds and the Reds were 29 and 30 inches the Tarpon were just little ones of 15 pounds but still fun and still a slam. That is a really fun trip travelling back through the Creeks and Bays in the Everglades you see lots of Wild life some great fishing and even some of the rare Florida Orchids. It is only for one person though we have to get through some skinny water and three persons would be too much weight in a small boat.
Bass fishing has been pretty good. We are catching good numbers of small Bass but the Oscars and the Mayans are just ferocious. A fish a cast if you do not mind catching them. This should keep up until the summer rains begin.
Naples Fishing Forecast:

The Fishing forecast for the rest of this month and April should be continued success and a steady increase in Snook and Tarpon activity as long as the winds die down a little. Big Tarpon are here we just need some calm weather for them, I have jumped a couple this last few weeks and seen some moving around. Snook fishing will take off in a big way especially on the outside beaches and passes. Night fishing will be spectacular and Fly fisherman need to get going. Looked at large schools of Snook moving near Hurricane Pass today. They are not ready for a feeding frenzy yet but I expect in the next couple of weeks to see them go crazy. Bass fishing will continue to be strong until the summer rains and heat begin, usually mid June. One note on a non fish related topic congrats to all the girls that took the ladies let's go fishing seminar this weekend it was a lot of fun and I hope everyone had a great time and learned much about our fishing in South West Florida. Looking forward to helping them again next year. Special thanks to Michele, Joy, and Kahn for the fish they caught and almost caught on our excursion. Thanks Roan z.
