Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sorry to say that the waterfront has been a wash out since Tropical Storm Debby started affecting out weather last Friday. As far as I no one has been out since. Not this captain either! We had torrential rains, winds gusting to 45 kts. as well as widespread coastal flooding throughout SW Florida. Today (Wednesday) the sun is finally out, but the winds are still gusting to 30 out of the Southwest.
On the good side, the waters have cooled down to 80 degrees. I think that is going to make the fish more aggressive when they start to feed again. Also with the waters so stirred up, I think that will move the bait around bringing us a fresh crop as the waters clear. Catching the live bait fish that we rely on so much had really gotten to be a chore before the storm.
I did get a couple great trips in last week before the blow started. One was a return trip with Steve and Dave Haschek along with Dave's son Curtis. We headed out to fish the big outgoing tide in the evening and found perpetual snook action with fish ranging to 33 inches. Some big jack were on the prowl as well running to 15 lbs. Here is the trio with an example of both...

Redfish were also cooperating along the islands at high tide. Cut lady fish, herring and sardines seemed to get more attention than live bait. The redfish continue to run in the 21 to 24 inch range.
Hopefully things will start to return to normal after the weekend as the turbid water settles down.
