Orlando - Freshwater Fishing Report
St Johns River
Fished the St Johns River with my tournament partner yesterday. Found the waters very muddy. This was my first time there in almost a year, only time we really make it there is for prefish and our yearly tournament there.
Launched the boat at 7am and went off to our first spot, same spot we hit last year that produced a third place finish for us. 1st place was 16.67 2nd was 16.65 and 3rd was 16.60, talk about a heartbreaker.
Well our first area produced great again for us, tossing small spinnerbaits, flippin craws and Gamble Ace worked out really good for us. Everything we got was tight to the reeds in about 4 foot of water. Best 5 out of area one was around 16 pounds again.
Area 2, which was just down the river from Lake Monroe, we flipped some lily pads and worked small points coming off the river, burning WIGGLES which are like Rattle traps, but have a better cut to them so they come thru the grasses much better, we picked up 4 more small keepers. 11AM and the skies were starting to darken up so we headed for the ramp, it was a prefish so no reason to get soaked and we had a pretty good day on what was supposed to be a bad day with the high pressure system.
Total for the day ended up being 18 bass boated and one nasty ole Gar. Not bad for a prefish and if this holds up will make for another great tournament on the St Johns River which always seems to produce some very good quality bass.
Till my next report, tight lines and great fishing.
