Butler Chain
Butler Chain
Today we headed out to Butler Chain of Lakes. Started out working spinner baits and horny toads on Lake Isleworth catching 2 bass to 3 pounds. From there we headed on over to Lake Tibet. Working white spinner baits and horny toads the fishing was very slow, so we switched over to Tiki Sticks with a small bullet weight, pitching to edge of grass beds to start landed several nice bass. Key was to work it VERY slow, at the slightest tick set the hook. Pitching Tiki sticks up under the docks also yielded several nice bass up to 4 ½ pounds.
We had also spent a few hours up on Lake Sheen, again with Tiki Sticks working grass beds and docks was the key, as well as watching your line. The bass did not slam the baits, they would just pick it up and sit there, so when your line jumped, set the hook fast and you had your bass. The water levels are still up some but the water is very clean which ment longer casts and flips were needed to catch the bass, although we got them off the grass beds close to shore and around the docks, the waters we fished were still 7 to 12 feet deep with visibility up to 6 feet in areas. The storms that we have had do not seem to have affected the fishing on Butler Chain at all, as some local tournaments still take 17 pounds or better to win out here.
Talked with two others out there today and they said they found the pattern to be the same over the last several weeks, working grass bed edges and docks with either Tiki Sticks or Senkos with small bullet weights and the key was to work VERY slow.
Till my next report, tight lines and great fishing!!!!
