Palm Beach to Jupiter

Palm Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore Fishing Report 11-30-2006 Palm Beach / Jupiter, Florida

I was absent from fishing for Thanksgiving week do to a great hunting trip up north in southern New York. That same week Florida experienced a strong cold front, which temperatures plummeted to the lower 40’s. The fishing is still strong and has pushed the Ladyfish and Pompano up onto the Hobe Sound flats. The Ladyfish are very aggressive and will take artificial jigs and buck tail jigs tipped with shrimp. These fish are hanging in 2 to 8 feet of water. The Pompano are not as thick but will continue to get better with every passing week. The Pompano will take any tipped jig bounced of the bottom usually lime green is the color of choice.

The Lox River is still on fire; the Snook are all over the docks on both an incoming and outgoing tide. The Outgoing tide produces more fish but both are productive. Both Common and Fat Snook are being caught using live greenies, shrimp, and small finger mullet. The mangrove snapper bite has also been good with the bait of choice being shrimp. These little fish are great for kids and also make great table fare. The Jacks are still cruising the river looking for any free meal. These fish are great on light tackle and for those who like a challenge try throwing a fly rod at them. The fish are averaging 1 to 10lbs with an occasional 15 and higher.

The night fishing for Snook has been great the Snook are stalked up on the dock lights waiting for passing baits. The bait of choice for me has been greenies and small live shrimp. Last night I threw the fly at them and produced 8 Snook in an hour trip, in the rain. The fish are 18 to 26 inches. The bigger fish have been near the bridges and deep drop offs of the docks. The blue fish are starting to show up in the Palm Beach area also. These ferocious fish will destroy any fast moving top water bait or any live bait put in their path. The average size of these fish range from 1 to 5lbs.

Well that is the report for the past two weeks hope everybody had a great thanksgiving. If you would like to experience spectacular light tackle inshore fishing in the Palm Beach area, give Capt.
