Palm Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
Inshore Fishing Report March 21, 2007 Jupiter/Palm Beach
The winds keep on blowing. When will it stop, hopefully soon? The fishing has not been affected; just the tactics to catch the fish have changed. The Snook bite remains great along the sea walls and docks in the Loxahatchee River. The Snook have been hanging on the non-wind sides of islands and coves were the water is clear. The best baits have been live shrimp, and sand perch. The bigger Snook are on the move out of the back rivers and are starting to gather at points and drop offs in the main river. The Fat Snook bite has been great in the back bays, and they have been mixed in with the Jacks around the dock pilings and downed trees. The Snapper bite has also been great around the docks using live or dead shrimp. The Sheepshead have been thick on pilings and seawalls were the water is clear they have been in pods lately, taking any live shrimp offered to them. The sheepsheads are averaging 2 to 4 lbs.
The Palm Beach Snook bite is awesome near the sea walls and docks during the day. Many of the Snook we are catching can be sight fished for along the seawalls using live bait and artificial lures. The Snook are averaging 20 to 30 inches in size. The Jacks have also been thick near drop offs and sea walls; top water lures work great for these fish and add for some great explosions. The Jacks are hanging in pods of 20 to 40 and weigh from 2 to 25 pounds.
I am also very proud to have guided my client George from Long Island to a record fish March 19, 2007. George caught a 22lb Triple Tail inshore in Palm Beach on a 1/16 ounce jig head tipped with a Berkley Gulp shrimp. Way to go George nice job.
