Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Myself and some of the guides I work with are suffering due to bad info out there concerning oil and Panama City Beach. No one really knows what's going to happen. As my brother and I discussed earlier today; winds out of the west will play a big part as to whether we will suffer from oil. The low in the gulf is actually helping us. Alex is south and forcast to move west of Panama City Beach. With counter clockwise rotation that will mean North, East and Southeast winds for our area pushing the oil away. For all of you that read my reports, whether you fish with me or another guide, don't rely on "hyped up" news reports, as in the words of Don Henley "she can deliver (the news) with a glimmer in her eyes".....call your guide, ask him if the fishing is good and whether it's worth coming or not.
As for the fishing? Best, maybe, since I have been guiding. We were running across the bay this morning when I noticed some activity to the north. Headed over, dropped some ly's into the working fish. Twenty minutes later my 14 and 15 year old boys had two 15 pound bonito in the boat. Biggest fish either had ever caught, done on 8lb P-Line.

The trout bite slowed with the full moon over the weekend...should have been here last week..lol. That will change in a couple of weeks with the big trout back on the move. We will be catching them.

Spanish are thick and big. Seeing some of the best and biggest catches of spanish in years. For those of you that haven't had the pleasure of a 5 or 6 pound spanish hammering a bait and running off 30 yards of line....let me tell you, you need to get you some of that.

All in all the fishing is great. No oil, no reason not to be in Panama City fishing. Hope to see you soon.
