Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

There will be plenty of time to catch big reds and trout all summer. The cobia run only last's four to six weeks. Normally this ten day period we are in is the best for cobia fishing. Not many fish have been caught this year. Having grown up here I know many avid cobia hunters, obsessed is a better word than avid. All say the same thing: not many fish so far. Hopefully the weather will settle and the next two weeks will make up for the last few.
Hit the gulf yesterday morning looking for cobia. The water was stained and brown in the morning but cleared in the afternoon. As we passed several other people that I knew on boats we spoke on the phone. Few were seen and none were caught while we were out but that could have changed later in the day. I had one come out from underneath a school of rays and bump my jig but didn't take. We saw another peanut but he dissappeared into the murky water when we turned on him. So at least we saw a couple.
Along the beach there are lot's of spanish. We have been dragging various lured behind the boat while cobia fishing picking up spanish for dinner and grouper bait. We ran a two mile stretch of beach looking for pompano but didn't see any of those either. IMHO....everything is a little late getting started this year.

Panama City Fishing Forecast:

I think you can expect a few cobia over the next few weeks.
Trout and redfish bite is good and will wait until the cobia run is over.
In the mean time you can catch spanish along the beach with more headind into the bay each day.
Pompano and jacks along the beach are in the near future.
Target Species:

As the weather clears with the water, fishing should become very good.
