Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Did we get some rain last week? Was able to fish one day. Caught those big trout that you saw in my last report. The bay is the color of a double expresso from Starbucks, but that doesn't mean you can't catch fish!
After all of the rain drained out of my back yard and the lot behind me the bay browned up very nicely.

From West Bay all the way out of the pass the water is dirty. Along the beach the water is stained but not as bad as the bay. We fished West Bay yesterday with DOA and popping corks. Had a great time caught a lot of small fish, but at least we caught some fish. We left West Bay and went into the main bay fishing the Middle Grounds and the bank from Davis Point to Redfish Point. With exception of a few small blues, we never hooked our targeted fish, spanish. It was a fun day all in all.

This morning we left bright and early to cobia fish. Water along the beach was stained and the cloud cover made it very hard to see. We saw lot's of boats looking for ling but never saw anyone hooked up. The cobia bite should get hot over the next two weeks. As we cruised along we saw a lot of spanish jumping and decided to put out a OORBS Clarks Spoon behind a 1 oz. weight while looking for cobia. As you can see we caught hand fulls.

The reason the spanish have not come into the bay just yet is all the fresh water run off from the rain. Give it a few days of tide flush and those fish will be in the bay.
Although fun, the last two days have not produced any big fish. I look for that to change tomorrow or the next day. Stay tuned, more big fish on the way!
Panama City Fishing Forecast:

As the water clears the cobia bite will get better and the spanish will finally migrate into the bay in large numbers.
Based on my knowledge and experience of the cycles that fish go through I believe this will be a year with a lot of trout and some monster fish.
Reds are still in the pass along with the sheeps.
Target Species:

Reds, trout...spanish and cobia when the water clears. Pompano along the beach.
