Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Although the weather has been very cold the fishing trips I have taken have been very good. The hot water canal, Warren Bayou, has been full of good trout all winter and that should continue throughout the month of February. I have a lot of trips scheduled this month so the reporting should be back on track, starting mid week this coming week.
DUCK SEASON
Season ends today at sunset. All in all it was a fair season with good moments here and there. We managed some good ducks on the bay early in the second phase including redheads, bluebills, goldeneyes and a few teal. There were some cans out there as well as on some of the lakes. We resigned ourselves to hunting freshwater the last two weeks taking may limits of woodies with a puddle duck scattered in here and there.
When not fishing over the next couple of weeks I'll be in my deer stand hoping to improve on a nice 7 point I took recently. He was 14-1/2 inches wide.

Panama City Fishing Forecast:

Hot water canal is the place to go. Trout is closed and not many people go for the catch and release. February is always a good time for Warren Bayou.
The pass will start heating up with the coming of March. There are still big reds in the pass although during the middle of winter they are a little tougher to catch.
There are a lot of whiting and white trout under the bridges and deep holes.
Last, you can catch trout and reds in the bayous and creeks but trout is all catch and release for the month of February.
Target Species:

Fishing in winter is good, you just have to work at is more.
