East wind blows helping the spanish bite pick up.

Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had a nice break in the weather the last few days. East wind blew all weekend bringing in a lot of new fish.
Give a shout out to Tim Creasy for sending the Causeys' down for a trip. We looked at a few reds this morning but coundn't manage to get a hook up. Tide was way out and the fish seemed to be somewhat spooky.

For the second half of the trip we hit a few spots settling on a ledge that was full of spanish and blues. We were going through baits so fast I could barely keep up. There were many times when we had three fish on at a time. We also had a couple of monster spanish to the boat but lost them mostly due them biting through the 50lb. flourocarbon leader. Each of the three caught a lot of fish having bent poles most of the second half of the trip. Good job guys, see you again soon.

Panama City Fishing Forecast:

As we get into the dog days the trout and redfish bite can be hit and miss. I've had days this time of year when you could throw a toilet seat at a school of reds and they would eat it. I've had days when we put the most beautiful live shrimp or ly in front of them, watch them turn thier nose up and swim away. Trout are a little easier to catch but you have to know where to find the big ones. I can do that.
The spanish bite should improve with each new front. A lot of the fish that passed us by last spring due to the fresh water run off from all of the rain should start filtering back through on the way back sould. We have been getting a lot of 15 and 16 inch fish lately which are relatively young fish; maybe a year and a half old.
On another note, I was watching a "fishing show" a couple of weeks ago and heard the guide say "trout never move more than a few hundred yards from where they are born thier entire life". That guy must be a first year fisherman...obviously has never seen a big school of trout swimming down the beach. I'm a big believer that some of the biggest trout in our bay migrate from the east into our bay. Thats why we catch some really nice gators during the fall. Just ask anyone that fish Crooked Island Sound on a regular basis. Late summer trout fishing can be very good.
The king bite has been good all summer. I hope to be out there after some smokers later this week.
Best time to fish is when you can...see you on the water.

Target Species:

Everything is here with new fish arriving daily.

More Fishing Reports:

Sight casting fly and spinning for reds, trout, bonita, spanish, jacks and many other species. Live bait trips available as well as hot topwater action in the bay around Panama City, Florida. Depending on the time of the year I can normally put you on legal grouper in the bay, monster speckled trout, lot's of fly fishing action and just about everything else that swims and good tablefare.
