Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Gotta love the fall. Ducks moving through, cool mornings, big schools of reds, trout on the move and some legal bay grouper. I will have my 22' boat back in the water by next week.
During the last couple of weeks myself, along with clients have boated 11 legal grouper in the bay. All caught on ly's and 8lbs. test. We catch them on some random spots around the bay the seem to hold grouper this time of year. The largest so far this fall has been a little shy of 26" with most in the 23 to 24 inch range. The largest ever caught with me in the bay was a brute 30" long mid October 2006.
Along with the grouper comes the redfish move. They get very aggresive and will hit topwater, suspending, DOA and live bait this time of year. The water is clear and sight fishing has been one of the ways we have been getting them. Speckled trout also frequent the same places as the reds. We have had a tremendous year with trout. Even though nothing really big was caught this year in the way of trout (over 8 pounds) the bite has been consistent with many in the box.
