Nothing like some fresh trout for dinner!

Capt. James Pic
March 4, 2010
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

It was a cold blustery day...just the kind you want for some good fish in Warren Bayou. I headed up that way mid morning with Bill and Steve, two fly fishermen from the cold north; Rhode Island and New York. I could tell immediately that both were seasoned fly fishermen with Steve hooking a decent trout on the first cast. With a few lady fish and cats (unfortunately) in between they proceeded to catch a bunch of trout. Whe the day finished we left with eight nice fish in the box.
Technically speaking we used light colored clousers and sinking lines.
Due to the cold weather the fish are stacked up in Warren Bayou later than normal this year.

Panama City Fishing Forecast:

Can't help but look toward the 70 degree temps predicted for next week. The sheepshead bite should start soon after.
Trout and reds will start leaving the bayous and creeks with the warm-up.
There are still a lot of fish under the bridge and in the deep holes.
Last, my early prediction for the spanish: if we get some consistent 70 degree temps along with some really good hard blows out of the southeast between now and the end of this month I would say they will be here just after the full moon, say March 29th. If we have a cool early March and no southeast winds it will be around the 7th or 8th of April.
Let's see what the month brings and I will update the prediction. I have been very close to predicting the run for many years. To be very clear. I do not believe the run starts when one of the big boats catches a limit one afternoon trolling the pass. The run starts that day that they just suddenly appear busting bait all over the bay. Those that have lived here for years know exactly what I'm talking about. Join me on face book...I'm going to try and down load fishing videos this spring.

Target Species:

Still winter fishing but keep looking for that warm air blowing out of the southeast.

More Fishing Reports:

Sight casting fly and spinning for reds, trout, bonita, spanish, jacks and many other species. Live bait trips available as well as hot topwater action in the bay around Panama City, Florida. Depending on the time of the year I can normally put you on legal grouper in the bay, monster speckled trout, lot's of fly fishing action and just about everything else that swims and good tablefare.
