Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

The near shore and inshore bite has been good. I know it has been a little while sense my last report….Sorry Capt. Todd…..but we have both been a little busy with running trips and getting our new boats tweaked just the to our liking.

On the inshore and flats the redfish and trout have been very active. There has been a lot of sea grass in the bay and up on the flats so working the top water plugs has been hit or miss. Try switching up to a soft plastic bait rigged weedless and work it right on top or just below the surface. Spoons have still been working well for the reds and if you push out to about 3 to 4 foot of water and use a popping cork with a jig…..well the trout are taking those pretty good right now. When all else fails try setting up on one of your favorite creek mouths and use live bait under a clear cork. Capt. Todd has had a few good trips in the jetties catching big bull reds. A little bit heavier gear is recommended in order to turn those reds around and get them out of the rocks before they break you off.
The near shore bite has been fun too. We have been dragging baits and lures near some of our favorite wrecks and pulling in kings, Bonita, Amberjack and all kinds of stuff. It is low impact of the fishermen and the fight on a good size AJ or king is awesome.
The bite has been steady and looks like it will stay strong for the weeks to come. As always….good luck on the water.
