"4lb." Ray gets a variety

Capt. James Pic
August 19, 2009
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fall is here. You may not be able to feel it in the air but you can definitely tell by the fishing. We have caught reds just about every day we have fished for them over the last couple of weeks. The redfish schooling is one way to tell fall is coming.
Today we took a live well full of ly's to a seldom hit but very productive spot. Word for the day; "ACTION". That's what Ray wants and that's what was delivered.
The reason I say the fish are acting like fall is just how they bit today. Almost every fish picked up the bait like it was it's last meal. In a 40' by 40' spot we caught sharks, spanish, blues on live bait and on topwater, skips and trout...some nice trout.
The bluefish were all larger than the average one to one and a half pound fish caught on Camel Back or the Middle Grounds. These blues were all in the 3lbs. plus range. The spanish were nice sized. Even though we didn't get any "gator" trout we had four very nice 19" to 21" fish. This kind of bite will continue thru October. The species of fish may change from day to day but the bite is good.

Panama City Fishing Forecast:

There is a lot of good fishing this time of year. Redfish bite is good on the flats with the bigger fish in the pass. Trout bite should be hot for at least the next 30 to 45 days. Spanish will be in the bay in good numbers well into November.
The next thing to happen will be a flounder run which will start in a few weeks with the major bite happening in October and November.

Target Species:

Everything

More Fishing Reports:

Sight casting fly and spinning for reds, trout, bonita, spanish, jacks and many other species. Live bait trips available as well as hot topwater action in the bay around Panama City, Florida. Depending on the time of the year I can normally put you on legal grouper in the bay, monster speckled trout, lot's of fly fishing action and just about everything else that swims and good tablefare.
