Panama City Fishing is Reel Good Right Now!

Capt. Rob Womble

Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing in our area has been great over the last week or so and there's absolutely no reason it won't continue to stay that way. There's only so many ways to say that the fish are biting and what they are biting on so here goes. The trout are taking top-water, suspending, soft-plastic and popping corks. Target the 2 to 4 foot drop and focus your efforts on the popping corks. Try using the 3inch Berkley Gulp Shrimp on a 1/8 oz jig head. In the morning the redfish will hit just about anything you put in front of them. Top-water, soft-plastic and spoons are our lures of choice for the reds. Fan cast the early morning hours and as the sun pops up switch to the spoon for some site casting.

Normally I would fill up the report with a bunch of pictures of customers holding up their catch, but this time I want to do it a little different. We can easily forget the reasons why we started fishing in the first place. I assure as a young man while fishing with my father, my intent wasn't to catch the biggest fish or even the most. No, during that time I was happy just to be out on the water with a fishing rod, soda pop, brothers, father and a can of worms….not always in that order. Although Capt. Todd and I have been extremely busy, we have still found the time to return the favor we had as children and take our kids out fishing. We even found it in our hearts to relocate a wondering alligator from our farm pond back to the lake it came from…..but not without taking a couple of pictures first. To all the dads out there doing the best they can and still finding time to spend a little time with the kids, thanks. For the dads who are over there (any where our country ask you to go) but wanting to be here for your kids, your sacrifice is deeply appreciated. Thanks for your service. Happy Fathers day!

Drew and Bobby caught plenty of trout but Bobby still nailed the biggest!

We ran a lot of great trips this week but the trip with the kids up to the farm was by far the best. Do yourself a favor, take a little time and take a kid fishing. You will more than likely end up having more fun than they do. As always good luck on the water and watch out for the other guy.

Panama City Fishing Forecast:

With the summer time afternoon thunderstorms popping up the potential for some great pre and post storm fishing is really good. You have to a bit carefull riding around in a boat during some of these storms....but the bite can be worth it. The first 45 minutes after a storm is out of this world. Be on your spot and ready if you can stand the rain.
