Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

With the weather cooling down a little the topwater action has been on fire. Now of course the winds have to cooperate but when they do, the topwater action is outstanding. We have been starting out with darker colored lures in the low light early morning hours and switching to lighter colors as the sun gets up a bit. If the water you are fishing is extremely clear you may want to switch to the brighter color topwaters a bit sooner. If the water color is a little stained try sticking with some of the darker color plugs. If you get out there and the wind just won't give you a break, try suspending twitch baits with rattles. The sound will help the fish locate the bait. Try to vary your retrieve until you find the right set-up for the fish. This technique has been working well for both the redfish and trout. We have also been catching a few flounder here and there using this technique.
With milder weather the bite has been lasting all day at times. When the weather is mild like this I try to time my trip to the tides. I have found the bottom half of the falling tide has produced a little better than the in-coming tide. We have found the reds and trout at just about all of our normal spots. North Bay is pretty good right now but all around Tyndall, especially the golf course side is real good. We have been going up one side and switching over to the shell island side and working our way back. By the time we get done with a run we usually have a limit of trout and reds.
Here are some photo's of last week's action.

As you can see we are still catching some really nice trout and redfish!
Dave & Joe came down from Alabama for a couple days of fishing with Capt. Todd and I. I have to say they were great fishermen and had me laughing for a majority of the day. Look forward to seeing you guys in October.
As always good luck on the water and watch out for the other guy.
