Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

The spanish, along with some big blues, have been piling into the bay lately. Today, "4lb. Ray" was chunking lug nuts at the big schools of spanish that we chased around the pass. You can see a video on my facebook page.
There were plenty of fish chasing minnows, big and small.
I'm always amazed when I see my competition especially when it comes to fly fishing. One thing about me, been fly fishing longer than most of the guides around here have been alive. We had a fly fisherman on another boat near by. I watched him cast and strip.....not hook up much. Fly guys....let me tell you...this is your time. For the next two months you can catch a lot of fish. You need to be with someone that actually knows how to catch fish on the fly.
What was wrong? Obviously, wrong fly. If you strip the right color and size through those fish you should hook up every cast. Next, wrong line. Your standard floating line does not work as well as a full sink. Last, wrong stripping technique. I can't begin to count the people that I have taught to double strip underhand. With those three things that guy would have caught a fish every time he laid his fly in front of those fish.
Here are a few action shots of Ray landing a spanish on four pound test.

Panama City Fishing Forecast:

Fishing should be extremely good for the next two months.
