Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

First...I want to invite you to look at my Facebook page: JP2Fish.com where you can see more photographs and videos.
Once the spanish arrive in late March/early April the bite is on for the fly fisherman.
We catch trout and redfish all thru the winter in some of the bayous and the hot water discharge canal.
We hit a couple of spots on a nasty spring day. I located a big school of spanish in one of my old haunts with two fly fishermen on the boat. One had never caught saltwater fish one had never caught a fish on the fly. Both go their first. Once the fish show up, even on the worst of days, there are fish to catch. When looking for a guide knowledge and local beats "moved" here a few years ago or "part time" guides. Knowledge is essential in finding fish on tough days. There are always fish to catch.
We hit this spot and the spanish were thick. #1 clouser minnow, which I tie for my clients, blind casting. Almost every cast a fish followed or was caught. We were anchored up and as the stiff wind blew the boat around as we were able to drop a fly in the one spot...BAM! Fish on!
Needless to say it was a great time.
Panama City Florida isn't known as a great fly fishing destination but I can tell as an avid fly fisherman, Panama City is great place to fly fish.
In the bay, trout and reds...ladyfish, bluefish, spanish and other species. During the summer just off the beach, big ladyfish and spanish, bonito, kings, blackfin tuna, mahi mahi and big big jacks. We can even chum up red snapper to catch on the fly.
If your in Panama City Florida and want to fly fish even if you didn't bring a rod, 'cause I have plenty, give me a call and I will put you on fish. Fly fishing for me is about catching fish not looking at them.
