Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Apologies for not being as diligent with the reports that you would like. I have been spending a lot of time in the deer stand, running lot's of duck hunting trips and some fishing charters. No pictures just yet but expect some in the near future.
I took two does during bow season and although I'm seeing a lot of deer not a horn to be found now that gun season has started. Had seven does eating around my stand a few evenings back but not a horn. There are a couple of really big bucks hanging around hopefully I'll get one in my sights.
Duck hunting this year has been a little strange. I hear lot's of stories from clients about how Ducks Unlimited is screwing up the hunting throughout the U.S., being a former Area Chairman I have to concur with many of the opinions. Even though there supposedly more ducks now than ever there seems to be less coming here. I believe, as many do, DU has changed the fly ways and is keeping the birds up North (for themselves). I hear stories, and know from first hand experience, that they spend some of the donation money to send what they think are an "elite" group of hunters to various lodges. Best thing hunters can to is what I did years ago, stop supporting them or giving them money. If they go back to what they originally started; conservation of wetlands and protection of the duck factory then we can support them again. The ducks need to be left to migrate naturally.
As for season here; we have taken decent numbers of redheads and bluebills on the bay this year. Not nearly as good as years past. Some big flocks decoying prior to the cold snap. With the freezing temps a lot of the birds moved out. We have been hunting some freshwater spots doing very well with the woodies, gadwalls, ringers and misc other species.
Fishing this winter has beed excellent. Each time we go to the steam plant canal (Warren Bayou) we catch a lot of trout, ladyfish and some reds mixed in. The jacks haven't moved into there just yet. Under the bridges and the deep holes in the bay you can cathc whiting and silver trout. There are trout and reds in bayous and creeks.
I now have a face book page that you can follow. I can do some things on there that I can't do here so it should be fun.
