Redfish and Redheads, a great winter combination.

Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

This time of year the fishing can be really good. We went to Warren Bayou on Friday (steam plant canal) and after a little searching found a large number of fish just outside. We caught most of them on DOA Shrimp and popping corks but they also hit four inch curly tail soft plastics. A lot of small fish but all fun. Have to throw them back anyway until the end of February.

Still catching reds in a lot of areas; pass, creeks, bayous and a few on the flats. This will continue throughout the winter. In the not to distant future some of my winter spots will be working for whiting, black sea bass and some silver trout. These are all a lot of fun on light tackle.

Last, one of the guides I work with in the St. Andrews Guides Association has great luck in the winter catching grouper. If you want to get some nice grouper give me a call and I will set it up.

DUCK HUNTING

The conclusion of the first phase brought a lot of smiles to clients as we looked back at the amount of birds seen and taken. This past weekend we opened with good days of redheads, bluebills and others out on the bay. Even though Deerpoint is getting hammered you can still get a few woodies and teal. As the season rolls on there will be less and less on Deerpoint. We were at the Choctahatchee River scouting a lot of woodies. I have had the opportunity to take mallards in the past in that river system. Next report will have some new locations. We saw a lot of bluebill ducks floating during the Thanksgiving phase. People shooting these ducks prior to indentifying them and then leaving them on the water due to overlimits. I have been working with the Florida Game and Fish Commision to stop this by catching these offenders and strongly urge anyone that see's illegal activity when it comes to ducks, or any other wildlife, to immediately call and turn these people in. I have been on the water for almost forty years and never had a wildlife violation which proves you can be successful without breaking the law. If you don't know how to identify a duck while in the air I suggest you hire a competant guide, like me, to teach you.
