Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

EARLY SEASON CAST AND BLAST!!!
We have had an outstanding couple weeks. The weather has cooperated for the most part, and with the full moon we had, the tides were moving a good amount of water at the right time which was perfect for the trout, redfish and the flounder. The cooler temps during the morning hours made for some really nice duck hunting. We hunted every day of the early duck season with some awesome results. A couple of these trips were Cast and Blast. Capt. Todd took the clients on an early morning duck hunt and afterwards I guided them on an early afternoon flats fishing trip. Our customers limited out on both the ducks and the fish.
The redfish and trout topwater bite has picked back up a bit but the best bait right now is still the Gulp Sinking Minnow or the 4” Gulp Shrimp rigged with a weedless hook no weight on light tackle. The reds and trout are still up on the flats in shallow water and when the tide falls the redfish have been busy digging around in shallows showing their tails allowing us the perfect target. It's no secret the flounder are on the move. We have been pulling some nice size flatties off the bottom using the standard 1/4oz jig head and white curly tail grub. You can locate these guys along any deep drop in close proximity to flowing water such as creek and bayou mouths. Another great place to target the flounder is around the jetties in Saint Andrews Bay. If you can find them, Bull Minnows on a Carolina rig will usually temp the flounder into giving up a little quicker than an artificial bait will.
Here are a couple pictures from last weeks hunting and fishing trips.
The early duck season was a total success. We had limits of Wood Ducks every day with a couple Teal mixed here and there. Unfortunately for us we had a hungry young alligator on the second day of hunting that was quicker at retrieving the Teal than we were. Oh well at least we got the Woodies. For those of you who will be looking at booking a duck hunting guide for the regular season regardless of where you hunt I recommend you check out your potential hunting guide the same way you would a fishing guide and call your local fish and wildlife office and ask if they have had any violations or complaints. Duck hunting is under federal regulations so you don't want to take any chances with a less than reputable guide.
As always good luck on the water.
