Panhandle - Panama City, West Bay & Port St. Joe

Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

PANAMA CITY REDFISH BITE IS ON!

Folks sorry for the long delay between reports but this is duck and deer hunting season. OK on to the fishing report. The trout bite has remained the same. They are still up in the creeks and in some of the deeper holes on the flats. We have been having great luck using suspending and sinking mirror lures. Cast up current and slow roll it along the bottom back towards the boat. Last week we caught 5 limits of good size trout.

The redfish bite is where the action has been. This cooler weather still has them grouped up in tight schools. We have been pushing quietly along the flats until we spot one or two and then we slow everything way down and start watching closely for the nervous water and or tails. We have found that the best bite has been during the lower half of the falling tide or at low tide. I know you have all heard this before but the right bait to use at this time is a gold spoon, suspending mirror lure or a soft plastic bait such as a Gulp sinking minnow or a 4” Gulp shrimp. We have spooked more than we have caught because they are SHALLOW and the water has been calm and clear. This means you will have to kick your stealth into high gear. Use long cast and the lightest line you think you can get away with. Cast to one side of the school and slowly work the bait towards the school.

You can expect nice redfish like these when you locate the schools.

Capt. Todd reports that the duck hunting has been great. He has had a lot of trips over the last couple weeks and says they have been shooting some really nice ducks. A couple days they had heavy fog and that didn't slow the ducks down one bit. The lake hunting in the standing timber has been great. Every trip he has ran up there has ended up with limits of wood ducks. We are booked up until after Christmas so if you are looking at duck hunting with us be sure to give us a call as soon as possible.

Capt. Todd and I wish all of you a Merry Christmas. Have a safe holiday and be safe out there on the water and the woods.
