Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/Florida Panhandle
Fishing this time of year is great. Fly fishing especially. We have been catching huge numbers of bonitat (little tunny) off the beach along with monster spanish. All you have to do is look for the birds working and go from there. Any jig or quickly stripped fly will result in a strike. There have been a few days when we caught 30 and 40 pound redfish working the top about a mile off the beach. They too were ready to hit just about anything you through at them. I had one customer land a 40 pounder on eight pound test P-LIne. Took him about 25 minutes.
In the bay redfish and trout fishing is very good. The flounder are starting to move for the fall migration which means bouncing grubs in the day or gigging at night is working right now. I certain areas spanish are being caught in as big as 7 or 8 pounds in the bay along with some big blues. With this cold weather these fish will hit topwater all the way into the middle of the day. Last, there are large numbers of mangrove snapper around the piers and structure in the bay. Live shrimp will do the trick for these tasty little fighters.
Off shore kings are thick and the big snapper have been moving in close with this cool weather. We have also heard good reports of flounder around the inshore wrecks and some big pompano being caught/
I had a lot of trouble getting e-mails through Comcast this year my new e-mail address is [email protected]
Good fishing,
JP
