Florida Fishing Report for Panama City & Destin

Capt. James Pic
February 14, 2004
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/N.W. Florida

Rain, rain and more rain has been the word lately. Hopefully the rain will be now and not later in the year and all summer like last year. Not much to report although things should start heating up in about a month. With the warmer than average winter down here I can only think(and hope) that the spanish run will start by mid-March. This will be great for everyone.

This is a good time to get your gear in order for the year and ready for the spring. Check your reels and put a little 3-in-one oil in the bail and drags. Check your line and change it as needed. If you need any guides repaired and can't do it yourself bring your rod down to the shop and we can get it fixed in just a couple of days. Also there are alot of new products

this year and we have remodeled the store once again and have brought in many new products and expanded on others. One thing that I am particularly proud of is the new section of the store called the "Galley" where we have a wide assortment of fish fry's, hushpuppy mixes, spices and injectable marinades. By mid-March we will also have a wide selection of

wines that will go along with your fish and wild game and the beer cooler will be full of your favorite brews.

On the fishing front, still catching alot of trout and reds in the bayous, canals and creeks. There are alot of trout in the hot water discharge canal that are easy to catch. Offshore I hear there are alot of grouper in close.

Hopefully the next report will be more positive, although the fishing is good it's just a little miserable out there right now.

JP

More Fishing Reports:

Sight casting fly and spinning for reds, trout, bonita, spanish, jacks and many other species. Live bait trips available as well as hot topwater action in the bay around Panama City, Florida. Depending on the time of the year I can normally put you on legal grouper in the bay, monster speckled trout, lot's of fly fishing action and just about everything else that swims and good tablefare.
