Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/N.W. Florida
We finally have reached the edge, the time when the days start getting shorter and the fish are just slightly more active. We saw some big schools of spanish and bonita moving into the bay last week and fishing is getting better everyday.
I had a trip on August 2nd and will post a photo of the nine pound trout I caught on a Zara Puppy. We released it and proceeded to catch several nice keeper fish on topwater. We then move to some other spots and continued to catch big blues and spanish on tiny torpeodo's.
Reds have been active also, some days we catch them and some day's we don't. Everything is getting better.
Offshore the fishing is good. Kings are thick and snapper, grouper and AJ's are around the recks.
Fall is just around the corner which means the good fly fishing cranks up. Good pulls from huge schools of bonita and spanish will be the ticket until late November. Fly fishermen and regular fishermen--remember this starts the best time of the year to fish. If you want to have some fun and catch some good fish, September, October and November are the months to be here.
Next year, I will start running tarpon trips again during the good tarpon months. I haven't been able to do this for several years due to my store but now that I've close I can get back to my roots. As a guide, I've been jumping tarpon in this area much longer than anyone else in the on the water.
Hope to see you on the boat,
JP
