Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/N.W. Florida
And the year of the speckled trout continues.....those of you that read this report that want to catch some nice trout need to get down here and fish. Everyday, depending on the ability of the customers, we seem to put eight to twelve nice keeper fish in the boat. Yesterday we had nine good fish with two over twenty....all released, they just didn't want to keep any. Seems like any of the "good spots" that we go to we are catching trout.
Reds have been here and there. We caught some people keeping a bunch of illegal fish a week ago....i can't stress enough, besides catch and release, if you see somebody--even your best friend breaking the redfish laws, turn them in. I grew up here and we hardly ever caught reds when i was a kid cause the netters were sending them all to the restaraunts. Those of you that have been here long enough to remember that know the fishery is much better today than then. There are a lot of small fish this year and some people are filling thier boxes with them.
With the waning full moon a few days ago the big spanish moved into the bay along with the biggest schools of bonita i have ever seen in the bay. Mr. and Mrs. Sweat came to town and caught seven eight pound bonita on the fly last Saturday morning along with four more on eight pound gear. White deceivers with peacock hurl seem to work best.
Flounder have moved into the bay and we have started picking up some legal black snapper. All in all, fishing is still very good. I have days available in July and i hope to see you on the boat.
Don't forget, my favorite time of the year--fall--is just around the corner. Fishing in September and October is really good most years....make plans to get down here and book your trip.
