Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/NW Florida
Just wanted everyone to know the spanish finally arrived on April 3rd and as of April 4th the run is in full force.
Usual places, usual lures and flies. We had about 80 this morning for a half day. They will be thick and easy to catch for a few weeks then will taper off but the blues, ladies, pompano and flounder are right around the corner.
On another note....We caught trout on the flats in West Bay and in some bayous the same day using DOA shrimp. They are in transition, be patient, they will be on the flats in a week or two. Lots of bait in West and North Bay. There could be an effect on the trout fishery this year due to last years red tide. There is a place that we catch trout every February, March and April. Have stopped there no less than ten times in the last month and have not hooked the first trout. These aren't west or east bay fish, but they should be there just the same and they are not. Hopefully there will be some good ones to be caught this season...those of you that know me, know I'll find them if they are out there.
There are flounder around, caught a few this week and last. Steam plant is still happening for an easy bite. Lot of fish that are considered "trash" by some but a good pull just the same.
Last....watched another Capt. leave the dock and take some guys trout fishing. What's up with that? They caught like....three fish! The spanish run is on full throttle...that's the bite. That's what these reports are for...to help you choose the kind of fishing to do. If the spanish are running, go fishing for spanish! I really want to help everybody catch more fish...just don't want to give away my secret holes...fair enough?
Good luck, tight lines and strong fish....
JP
